It's the socialist way. Everyone must be dragged down to the lowest common denominator. The prudent must pay for the feckless. Then you can have equality. Apart from the elite of course who are free to help themselves to as much of the fruits of the workers' labour as they please from their Kremlin-like citadels and dachas.
      Hard Brexit now!

She has parents and a grandmother.

If she ends up out of work she will go and live with one of them. In fact some young people end up being one of their grandparents' carers because of this.

Lots of people don't have pensions before they hit their late 20s. Not ideal but due to the sort of work they got there wasn't a pension scheme to pay into. Plus you are actually advised by the more realistic pensions advisers that if you are on a low wage don't bother saving for a pension.

What do you mean by contribute to society?

If she comes back has no job and ends up being a carer for one of her relations then she is contributing.

She is also saving the taxpayer thousands.

You seem to have a very fixed view on life. If people do things that are different to you it's wrong.

What is with the gardening thing? I've never gardened a day in my life. I'm a little young for that in my mid-thirties and anyway I have a gardener who does it for me.
Don't worry about Sean we are just waiting for his village to claim him back....they just have to miss him first...we are still waiting

Contribution is a very subjective topic I'll admit. From my perspective I mean taking responsibility for your own existence and then putting more into society than you get out. I appreciate others may view contribution in different ways.

Saving the taxpayer thousands is a valid way of contributing. However I don't remember the article saying she was going to become a carer like that and we can only have a reasoned and informed debate on the information presented rather than speculation.
Have you tried switching it off and back on again??

I'm trying to suggest a hobby that might stop you seething about other people having a good time with their earnings as is their right whilst you're apparently working your fingers to the bone so you can employ a gardener amongst other things.

It's called "society" so YOU won't be supporting anyone WE will and I don't care how people got where they are, just if they need my help. If someone's asking me for a handout I figure they've sacrificed enough pride without me asking them to justify why I should give it to them.

I'm not seething. I'm expressing an opinion I hold on the topic. If I was seething I'd run for political office so I could actually attempt to influence the matter in parliament.

It's interesting to see you don't care how people got where they are and would be willing to help them regardless. So if I decided to sell my house, bought a Bugatti Veyron with the cash but didn't bother to insure it then stuffed it into a hedge and wrote it off you'd be happy with me asking you to pay my rent and buy my food because I didn't have any money left?

I'd tell me to s*d off because I was an irresponsible idiot.

So if you crash into the hedge breaking every bone in your body instead of paying for you to get treated at hospital we should leave you to die?

He'd probably be happier that way. For someone in his thirties to be so bitter is just tragic, tsk.
