I can't be bothered to fire up a Windows VM until I've upgraded the hard drive on the MacBook - I got a disk full error earlier and had to restart to get the page file down to size

Logging out then in again usually does the trick for me. Back in Panther days I found that when the swapfiles got too big the system got slow, so I monitored their size and simply did a log out and in to reduce their size when necessary.

I only reboot when a software update needs it (or when I'm testing startup stuff).

Larry Page also mentioned that during development he has been using it personally on a really old and slow machine, as a way of keeping up the pressure on the developers to make it faster

I wish more folks would do that. I've come across too many systems which have been developed on the latest whiz bang kit and run like a dog on customer machines.

Starts up really quick with none of the screen crap that IE and FF have. That's pretty good.

It's sad they chose to completely forget 10 years of people having a standard interface for applications though. Apparently, it looks quite in keeping on Vista, but they must have hard-coded it rather than let it use your current theme settings?

Yeah, but they'd be stupid to refuse ad blocking. People just won't use their browser, in the technical demographic anyway.

For some reason it won't list Firefox under the import settings option; annoying but the browser's nice.

Has anyone worked out how to get at bookmarks? You can see them from the initial page, but I can't work out how to access them given the very minimal buttons. And there's no menu to fall back on.

Doh! Okay so I figured out how to show the bookmark bar. I think I would have had that on by default though.

They won't want to promote bookmarks too much as they avoid the search engine. Much better for them if you have to search for an old site all the time.

Presumably their user testing showed that the majority of ordinary users don't use it. Remember, most people treat the Google search box as the address box.

I can believe that. Watching my Dad use a PC, he doesn't seem to be able to do anything without using the search on his default Orange home page. I tried to explain that he doesn't need to use Orange anything, but he thinks that because they're his ISP he has to use their page.
