if you want to use it properly you'll also need to buy
    1 HDMI or component cable
    1 DVD controller
Thanks. I think I have settled on the PS3 then. I am assuming it doesn't ship with the HDMI cable and DVD controller that maximises its potential?

I knew about the HDMI cable but not the DVD remote. Must buy one of each before Xmas.

I have wired Ethernet so bandwidth is not a problem. How does web browsing work though - does it accept a (USB, wireless?) keyboard or is it a soft (on-screen) thing?

i got a generic HDMI cable from pcworld

only just bought the DVD controller now, official PS3 one for €30!

looking on amazon it appears that the price on them has dropped recently or i've been looking in the wrong places

you can use the PS3 controller for the blu ray stuff but it is a faff

theres predictive text via the PS3 remote controller and an on screen soft keyboard, or you can get a usb (or usb wireless) keyboard, check for compatibility though, i have a feeling not all keyboards will work

Just ordered a DVD remote and one of these from Amazon.

I didn't buy the HDMI cable on there because of the negative reviews. I think I'll go for a high-street cable that I can take back easily.

I think my hdmi was about£10. Not an expensive one and my PS3 is set to do full 1080p
