You know those timer thingies you get on your cooker, and the bing when the microwave finishes

is there anything I can get on my machine that will 'bing' at a certain time.
it has to be very flexible, and quickly reprogrammable

Yes, it's called an alarm clock you dullard.

The PC "beep" is a character - you can call it with a bit of VB Script

set wshShell = Wscript.CreateObject("wscript.Shell")
WshShell.Run "cmd /c @echo " & chr(007), 0

HTH

Why not set an alarm clock with the requisite timing, then hit your head with a hammer, while simultaneously shouting "Bing"?

It may improve your hitherto dull mental faculties.
