way , way too slow.

i tried that but I got a shock when i discovered we have an electric oven

You know those timer thingies you get on your cooker, and the bing when the microwave finishes

is there anything I can get on my machine that will 'bing' at a certain time.
it has to be very flexible, and quickly reprogrammable

you can set your "machine" to beep. Or even explode?

Do you use Outlook? You can set repeat tasks and single tasks in there and they can use a sound on your PC as an alarm.

Why do you need something that beeps a lot? doesn't the world have enough beeping in it for you already?

Although looks like you can't do hourly alarms but you could snooze them for an hour when they go off. Otherwise there is task scheduler:
