What is the point of Jazz music?

Proper jazz you mean? I quite like it. It sort of gets inside you, like reggae but in a different way.

I've also been told (by non-jazz musicians) that it's quite clever, but I wouldn't know much about that.

Abstract, meandering jazz? Not much, unless you happen to like the style, because there's precious little substance.

(Bit like any musical genre though, for example a lot of uninspired baroque "musack" just twitters on, and on and on ..)
