That seems quite a good ratio, easily workable.

I was turned down for a government contract (DVLA) because I did not speak native welsh!

No, the original point was that he wanted to hire a British worker.

        That is something I respect.

Personally I haven't found any noticeable difference in the general quality of technical people that I've worked with be they UK based, Western European, Eastern European, Asian, American or African (aprt from the ones in state run monopolies.

What I have found is that the best results come from where the user and the developer are close together, can work co-operatively and don't have some commercial contract sat between them that neither of them had anything to do with. We seemed to get somewhere near this towards the end of the 90s before people decided that because we could get electronic messages between them then it wouold be a good idea to put thousands of miles between them and plonk them in different time zones and put commercial and cultural barriers in front of them as well. This is also compounded by the introduction of a load of sh*t processes and controls introduced in an attempt to commoditise the whole process.

Still, as far as accountants are concerned, bodies are now per unit cheaper which is OK in their twisted and surreal universe.

My sis had a summer job at Uni (over here) she worked for the DVLA in Manchester but it was their call centre for Northern Ireland (bizarre eh?) anyway 'cos she spoke Irish she got £1.50 more an hour in case someone rang up who wanted to speak Irish.

I've seen just as many - if not more - incompetent, lazy, useless British workers as Asian workers fwiw. Please, let go of this myth of the British worker being in any way superior as a generalisation.

Also, see my earlier point about my interpretation of the definition of a 'bob'. By all means, avoid incompetent Asians, but to only accept people born in the UK is not only narrow-minded, but decreasing the talent pool at your disposal.

Did she answer the phone saying "Hello Dare"?

Maybe he meant it, but as a business "unsuitable" means "no good" not "foreign".

No but I'm happy to see 50 CVs, in fact I'd probably expect a similar ratio finding a good local person.
