I've never come across this type of behaviour before from contractors. To me they are the definition of disguised employees (rather than the hector one). GOD I HATE POLITICS - now oddly from 'fellow' contractors!
Sounds like we could be at the same place! It is very much like that on my current contract. Not good.

How could anyone possibly hate agents? It's not as if they're a bunch of feckless wide-boys with too much hair gel and not enough brains.

The lack of IR35 knowledge of some of these characters is astounding too. Several of them are still claiming travel expenses after 2 years. Thing is some of these guys are sick of the job, well why are they still here? FFS! you're contractors FFS leave!
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

Agreed Bagpuss. The attitude of people like this is very worrying.

well do you think people get lazy, and when a contract ext. is offered they just except it without thinking, I need to keep my skills upto date, move on, move up etc....... It winds me up when a client "assumes" that I will re-sign a contract for a further 3 or 6 months....is this par for the course, do a lot of contractors just re-sign without thinking? taking the easy route.

well uhh, yes I'm one of those

                  and why not ?

it's an easier life instead of moving every few months

if you work for example in .Net you'll be able to keep your skills up anyway

It'a a risk based decision innit? Do I take the extension with a strong possibility of extending again and again, or do I take a new contract and take the risk of no extension in 3 or 6 months.

We're all different and will make our own decisions so no-ones in a position to judge or condemn!!

yes I guess some skills can keep you upto date by using them, so .net is a good example. Bad examples would be operating system support/design
