[Moscow Mule]

I had my first ski trip when these were around, when time came to replace my gear I actually wanted to buy one of these, but they'd been out of fashion for several years. I had to settle for an all-yellow non-luminous one-piece, which is still going strong 12 years later. I hope they bring them back, one-piece single-colours garments in pastel blue, lime green, yellow, pink or orange would be far more pleasing to my eye than most of the stuff people wear. (Not to keen on the green or orange though.)

The only person who's ever commented on my get-up was a chalet host, who had several excuses for caring more than I do about fashion, he was (a) a boarder, (b) gay, probably, (c) a graduate of the school of fashion and textiles at St Martins College of Art and Design, (d) worked summers as a fashion consultant. I respected his opinion, but as a heterosexual married skier, not enought to actually change what I wear.

Although I admit to liking my get-up, my main criteria in ski clothing are keeping myself warm and making myself visible to rescue helicopters, come the day I need one. (I was going to say making myself visible to incompetent boarders, but having been taken out by one while standing still in the middle of a 100 metre wide empty piste in Courcheval, I now realise that them seeing you doesn't actually make any difference. Just realised I'm setting myself up for witty explanations here...)

Is it still water-proof?

I tried learning to snowboard in Courcheval, but got put off after some gimp in a ridiculous yellow all-in-one stopped in the middle of the piste while I was trying to get onto the heel edge.

Fortunately, he broke my fall, but I've been put off boarding ever since....

Head over to 1650, not so busy and you can avoid the nuvo riche Russian oligarchs and their bodyguards in their real fur all-in-ones.

One of the best places I have ever skiied/skied (sp?) was a place called Flaine in the French Alps, the resort looked like a 70's car park but the snow and lift system was first class, a great place to take kids and very unpretentious.

Is it still water-proof?

It's as good as new. It's seldom challenged though, I've been lucky with my weather and rarely been out in rain. I also go most holidays without falling over, and anyway snow can be brushed off before it melts.

You should ask for a private showing from any totty that takes your eye benesy. They are bound to be bug-eyed with lust if they have seen you blitzing through the powder looking for all the world like one of those small plastic polar bear decorations that adorn Xmas cakes!
