Seem to remember Labour looking on in glee when the Tories were wiped out in Scotland back in 97. I too look forward to Labour being wiped out in Scotland.

Once upon a time, they were known as the 'Tartan Tories'.

Exactly. Could you fact free daily mail reading English twats make your minds up ?

The left say the SNP are tories and the right say they're far left socialists.

Scottish Labour say voting SNP is a vote for the tories, the Scottish Conservative party say voting SNP is a vote for labour.

Question is, why is a country like England who holds around 90% of the seats in Westminster, got their collective pants in such a knot over the SNP ? The UK will get the government England votes for. If you lot can't actually make your mind up, you will potentially leave opportunities open for several colours/flavours of coalition.

UKIP won't do the same to the Conservatives but you have to wonder if collectively the smaller parties will give them a worried moment or two.

                It's all quite exciting.
I think they have already influenced Tory (and even Labour) policy significantly, e.g. in terms of an EU referendum, tax policy and immigration. They present a very real risk to the Tories in terms of voter atrophy, and a growing one to Labour in northern seats.

They will certainly provide some support to the Tories in government, even if they only get a few seats. They should now get on the PR bandwagon (which they have expressed support for) and start pushing for this reform, because really they outnumber the LDs and the SNP in terms of potential voters by a huge margin and frankly, the FPTP anachronism is the only thing that may bring Labour back into power.

As for the Scots, should they go their merry way, I think it'll be decades before Labour ever sees power in the rUK again. So I wish them all the best luck in the world on that.

Because the traditional English parties don't have a leadership which appeals to the entire UK. Blair set the standard with "Things...can only get better" no-one since Blair has been able to top that.

Labs and Cons have been peeled back to their core vote...approx 2/3s of the electorate. The other 1/3, the floaters, have most likely floated off to UKIP, SNP, Plaid and the Greens.

The worst thing the Tories did back in 2010 was to enter into formal coalition. They should have attempted to go it alone. Had they failed, then all they had to do was call another GE and let the electorate take it out on the losing parties of the previous GE. Rather like what Harold Wilson did back in '74.

                    You could have stopped there

Under normal circumstances, a Tory PM would be wiping the floor with a soggy twat like Milliband. Unfortunately, Cameron is an equally soggy twat.

Maybe the traditional English parties should make some effort to sort out the mess they've got themselves into by pursuing the ghost of Blair and the 'Thick of It' style mass appeal politics and get back to some conviction based politics. Then you wouldn't have the greater part of the UK demonising and fearing smaller parties for the possibility they might hold some power.

                      I agree.

Tony Blair's greatest achievement is David Cameron. We don't have a Tory PM, we have a New Labour PM.

The old Tory party died a death at the 2005 GE.
