I have one of these with 16GB and a crucial M4 512MB in it, it's more than capable of everything I've thrown at it although it has to be said the screen isn't the best you'll see. It was awful until I did a bit of tweaking of the settings, now it's passable but still not a patch on my previous T500. I'd take a look at the T530 TBH.Originally posted by quackhandle View PostI have a Lenovo T420s (latest model is now T430s) with 120GB SSD however I removed the optical drive and put in a crucial M4 256 SSD. Also added another 4GB RAM. Got a few SQL2008 VMs running, it does the job.
What's your budget? Alienware?

I would prefer a touch screen as touch screen as I will be running Windows 8 and would like to use it for leisure. I am not a gamer and will not be computing PI to n numbers every day, so not to concerned with CPU. Main thikng is upgradable RAM and SSD. The HP looks like the ticket and it has full HD.Originally posted by quackhandle View PostI have a Lenovo T420s (latest model is now T430s) with 120GB SSD however I removed the optical drive and put in a crucial M4 256 SSD. I am actually running Windows 8 bootcamped. However the keyboard is an issue and no touch screen, plus can't upgrade it at all. It is a lovely piece of Kit though I love it, just looking for more function than design.Originally posted by SimonMac View PostWhy not dev within a VMComment

I believe I've said it before but I have the Lenovo W530 with 32gb RAM, 15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080) LED Backlit AntiGlare Display, 750gb HD (thinking of putting an SSD in the optical drive as I hardly use it), 2 USB 3 and 2 USB 2 (one of which works when powered off so you still power up the phone), 9 cell battery, SIM card built-in with mobile broadband, Intel Core i7, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M Graphics with 2GB DDR3 Memory, yada yada. I run multiple VMs at the same time along with some very specialised software which requires a lot of memory and disk space and find it pretty damn good, bloody expensive though.“Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.”Comment

did you upgrade the memory yourself or do they let you configure up to that amount?Originally posted by darmstadt View PostI believe I've said it before but I have the Lenovo W530 with 32gb RAM, 15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080) LED Backlit AntiGlare Display, 750gb HD (thinking of putting an SSD in the optical drive as I hardly use it), 2 USB 3 and 2 USB 2 (one of which works when powered off so you still power up the phone), 9 cell battery, SIM card built-in with mobile broadband, Intel Core i7, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M Graphics with 2GB DDR3 Memory, yada yada. Don't know about other's experiences..but it often works out cheaper to upgrade the memory yourself. I think a 4GB DDR3 stick is like £15Originally posted by jmo21 View Postdid you upgrade the memory yourself or do they let you configure up to that amount?McCoy: "Medical men are trained in logic."
