I've written a simple perl hack hosted on free space that does that. My server hits the perl script every 5 mins and hey presto - I have a redirection point.

Then I suggest you either buy some proper hosting (preferred option) or bin your current adsl provider in favour of one which does a fixed ip.

The point is he might have been ok using some free services.

Just throwing insults at people does not make you look clever - it just makes it more obvious to all that you are a complete and total waste of space. If have never, not even once, seen a useful or interesting post from you.

Not sure if that's the same as using dyndns, registering a domain name with them and letting your router automatically update the IP if it changes. Which is what I do.

The only disadvantage is that you have to "touch" your account once a month if the IP number DOESN:T change! However, they do send you a warning a week or so before it expires.

Rob, this thing is foolproof for any program/ website that wants a reference point. It works by your computer registering itself with the perl script - which in turns gives your ip address away.

OK. I've got to the stage where I've downloaded BIND. Now, how do I get this to run on my server and relate my domain name to my IP address? I get a primary and a secondary DNS on my router setup. Do us anyone know where I go from here? :\

I find that using www.experts-exchange.com gets me full answers to technical questions quicker than this board.

Remember, this board is populated by contractors, who only have to appear to know what they are talking about, without often actually having to do anything practical.

Why reinvent the wheel? Many ADSL/Cable routers can automatically update dynamic dns services. I use a d-link cable router. Works fine.
