    Moving into project management

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. I think I may well give it a go - it'll be a big blow to the cashflow for my limited company, but medium-term could well be worth it. Prince II could be an interesting option as an evening class/self-learn to get stuck into during the duration of the...

    Moving into project management

Hello there I've been .NET developer for some time now, with experience of technical leading and some covering for project managers. I've been coding in general for about seven years now, and while I'm enjoying the current contractor rates in London I'm getting a bit itchy, and seriously...

Any spread betting sites that have web service access?

Might be worth looking at Betfair who have an API you could expose: http://bdp.betfair.com/

You could also use SVN with SSH: http://www.theblatherskite.com/articles/2006/10/24/secure-svn-repository-using-svn-ssh

Extra contract between my company and client

I haven't signed it yet ASB. The client just wants the IP/Ownership bit sorted because they need to cover their backs because they have a huge IP agreement with the client they are working for, it just happens it's their standard contract and these other clauses are in there.

Extra contract between my company and client

Thanks for all of your feedback. The contract is worded between the client and company, no mention of employee. The substitution clause states that I am required to give four weeks notice of any substitution. I think it's all OK apart from the maintenance thing "period of 18 months from...

Extra contract between my company and client

Hello Despite having a contractual agreement with an agency and invoicing them, the end client has asked me to sign an extra agreement, mainly because the agency contract didn't factor in IP/ownership issues, although there are other bits and pieces in there about substitution and being...

Contracts in the City seem to be few and far between at the moment

Absolutely Euro-commuter, that wasn't the question though and why are you apologising? The question was "How do you get that experience in the first place?" Maybe an answer might of been for example (I'm just making these up) - Previous experience in the financial sector in another (possibly...

Contracts in the City seem to be few and far between at the moment

I was going to post this as a separate thread, I'm an experienced C# developer - plenty of roles outside the City in London, which is fine at the mo, but obviously rates are higher in the city, getting these contracts seems to be a Catch 22 situation regarding financial experience; experience is...

    Downtime

After another afternoon of nothing on Thursday (tucked away some good UML/NUnit stuff though) I came in Friday morning and was told it would be an hour or two till I was allocated some work, by midday it was clear this wasn't going to happen - so I spoke to my project manager and said it was...

New skills - blagger or guru?

Never blag, heard a few horror stories - but more often than not when you're gone it's the poor ol' permies that have to clear up your mess; I've been there. Just started a new contract, couple of gaps in my knowledge including some Unit testing related skills - I was totally honest at the...

    Downtime

What does one do when waiting on a project manager or fellow worker to allocate work? Peronsally I feel a bit guilty when there are a couple of days (even hours) of downtime during a project, I chase people up but what more can you do? Would the most altruistic thing be to go home and not...
