    Warning: PayPal Scam

Received a letter today from "PayPal Credit" telling me that me account is £1200 in arrears - I do have a PayPal account but not PayPal Credit. Did a quick search of the "0800" number quoted in the letter - looks like this is a scam. Thought I would post as a warning to others. I will report...

Indian recruitment consultancies operating in the UK

Yes - even though they are on a fixed margin! I talked to the client hiring manager, told him what I wanted as a day rate and all was well - until TechM got involved. However, rate and hours are now agreed - just a struggle to get a contract out of them.

Indian recruitment consultancies operating in the UK

I'm currently trying to arrange a contract with a previous client. They want me to go through Tech Mahindra for the contract. However, it is proving very hard to get "onboarded" - the latest snag is that they want MyCo to contract via a Swiss payroll company. Going round in circles. However, I...

    Contracting for Norwegian company

Hi, I have recently been offered a direct contract with a Norwegian company - however the work will be carried out at a UK based subsidiary. Does anyone have any experience of this (or similar)? In particular, I'm not sure how this works regarding VAT. Looking at...

Does anyone know what this is?

Is it a tool for working out Egyptian Fractions? Egyptians expressed fractions as a sum on unit fractions with a numerator of 1, so: 2/3 = 1/3 + 1/4 + 1/12

    zip archive

Install 7zip and try that - I've had corrupt zip files that WinZip couldn't handle but 7zip allowed partial extraction of archived files that weren't corrupted.

    Negotiating agency commission

If you're with a big agency supplying many contractors on a PSL the rate can be even lower - mine is currently under %4.

    Xbox One Headset

My son has gone through 3 Turtle Beach headsets - always seem to break after about a year. He now has a set of TIRTTON - not sure which model, but they appear to be a bit more sturdy than the TB ones and have lasted about 18 months so far.

    BT Home Hub 5

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but thought it may be useful to update: Yesterday I bought a TP-Link TD-9880 VDSL/ADSL Modem Router for £48 from Currys. A quick 5 minute install and all is good again in the home network - WiFi range and stability much better than the HH5. No problems with...

Samsung Fridge Freezer I'm I going mad ?

A few years ago I made the mistake of buying a Samsung American style fridge freezer - also from Currys. In the 2 years we had it the compressor was replaced twice and also the controller. I argued with Samsung that the product was not fit for purpose and after much hassle accepted their offer...

Timesheets - pre authorised work clawback

Send the agency an invoice for the full amount covering Septembers timesheets - ignore the request to reduce by 3 days. Wait until your payment is overdue (e.g. 30 days) then issue a Letter Before Action (google this for many samples or pay £3 quid and get one sent out online).

    Quick VMware ESXi question

hot-plug/hot-add needs to be enabled on a per VM basis and you need to halt the VM to be able to make the initial config change. I've not kept up with licensing, but I think you need at least the Advanced license (or was it Data Centre?) to enable the hot-plug feature. Also, there are...

    Hot stuff

Waitrose stock it I think - sure I bought some there earlier this year.

Hmmm! Short term contracting past is not seen as successful???

Ditto - although 10 years for me, but with several months breaks here and there, so probably about 9 years total.

    Boom

It could be worse - you might have the misfortune of actually living there! Luckily I'm just outside but still too close for comfort.
