This isn't going to bring down their costs! The ones who can afford to charge that much are probably genuine partners. Besides, you probably get the same "who cares about contractors!?" out of most people, who are too clueless to educate themselves on the matter and escape the class warfare propaganda/rhetoric.

Also, I plan on becoming an accountant.

They are just playing people against each other, as they always do, and meanwhile the biggest tax dodgers (MPs, MNCs ...) get away with it. At least MNCs provide employment, goods and services. MPs and bureaucrats simply provide histrionics and hypocritical finger wagging.

But this is a good catch. I completely forgot about their plans to go all IR35 on partnerships, so it would make sense that this is what the 'low tax' Tories are planning on introducing; it would be bizarre, otherwise, that no one outside of Sky has reported on it, with vague hints of it being applied to ltd companies, and particularly not sites specialised on contracting.

Party of the middle class, don't forget. The fact that they've attached this to tax breaks for married couples and free school meals just shows how cynical a ploy it is. Oppose more taxes? Well then you are just an evil person who hates children and marriage, and all those good things that make Britain the fine nation that it is etc etc etc. *insert random quasi-fascist garbage*

Regardless, we'll know soon enough what is in the cards.

True but isn't ignorance the wellspring of most negative stereotypes? It just makes it that much easier for the government to put its spin on it and claim it is doing society some great benefit by making us into employees and raking in NICs (which most of us would probably never see any benefit from, anyway...)

It's even better when they want to try stop it for the "benefit" of those contracting. How magnanimous.

            No and no.

Go and talk to people who work or have worked in both jobs.

At the moment there is a surplus of lawyers and any fool can be an estate agent.

I wish we had a government made up of people who had done real jobs like John Major.....

Really? If so then rates should come down due to increased supply vs demand?

Nope. The real killer for lawyers at the moment is the reduction in legal aid. Reducing rates won't impact a significant reduction in available work...

Its not as if anyone thinks you know what I won't get divorced lawyers are too expensive....

Or lawyers are slightly cheaper now I will sue that cowboy builder rather than ignoring it....

There is more than one way to restrict a market and that doesn't mean those at the top will reduce their rates.

This is all the chancellor said this morning, I guess the small print may reveal more....

We’re going to tackle the growth of intermediaries disguising employment as false self employment, depriving workforces of basic employment rights like the minimum wage in a bid to avoid employer national insurance.
