I would ignore this, he jumps down my throat whenever he gets the chance - even when I am trying to help him.

I think I upset him by asking some questions about his religion he was not able to properly answer or something, rather like he has not answered this one and is merely avoiding it.

Well apart from all the other ways in which it's a stupid question, the fact that no exam body in the world has ever suggested praying is a form of cheating means it's a non-issue.
