How many people don't have an old keyboard/mouse/SD card lying around? You don't need a USB hub either, but they're hardly going to break the bank.

The Maplin offer is ridiculously over priced unless you really don't have any spare bits of kit stashed in the loft.

Nothing wrong with a bit of profit.

Anyway, there are other places where you can source the kit but £70 all-in and no ******* about trekking around looking for bits and mail-order tulipe seems a reasonable deal to me.

I'm glad I'm not the only one!

well, to be fair to her, she isn't specifically bothered about the RPi in itself, more the ever increasing amount of electronic computer "cr@p" that keeps arriving from amazon, all of which she fails to grasp the reason for why it's so important and necessary in the house.

Lots of people? I'm a nerd but I don't own an SD card; I think most people would struggle for anything except an old PS/2 keyboard

Of course you can get a keyboard+mouse from Tesco or Amazon for peanuts so it is hardly a lot of effort.

I took my iPad on holiday recently and "dialled" in to my Raspberry Pi's... Just so they didn't feel lonely I left them playing chess against each other...

anybody done anything with the GPIO pins?

I have made up a few setups/fumbles by following the instructions- .

tightVNC - remote desktop

'wheezy' with java/tomcat mysql and a few servlets running nicely.

openelec/XMBC - on a class 10 card - its ok - got a micro SD to run directly off the usb with pmount. The android remote is a bit bonkers.

I keep it in an old butty box with holes drilled into it so it remains a Heath-Robinson geek trophy.
