Chavez wants 200 tons most of which is meant to be held by BoE.Originally posted by AlfredJPruffock View PostThe US does actually need to get there hands on quite a lot more than just 144 Tons - but its a start - hmmm - here is a clue - Chavez ?
You don't see obvious stupidity of your theory however - cost of 144 tons of gold on open market is nothing compared to what US Govt can print in seconds.
Take my advice Alf - if you publicly endorse some crack-pot conspiracy theory then at least make sure it's not possible to contradict it with 5 minutes of number crunching. If you follow my advice then you'll just look like a crack-pot conspiracy theorist rather than a complete and utter idiot.
I'll invoice you for a fiver (sterling) tomorrow for this very valueable advice.Comment

You dont seem to grasp that he (Chavez) wants the Gold itself - not Fiat Dollars - maybe this will help -
"Chavez likened the people that control the gold industry to “the mafia,” stating, “We can’t keep allowing them to take it away,” as he made public plans to withdraw gold reserves from U.S. and European banks, including 99 tonnes held with the Bank of England and other reserves held by J.P. Morgan Chase, Barclays, HSBC and Standard Chartered, France’s BNP Paribas and Canada’s Bank of Nova Scotia.
Of the country’s 365.8 tonnes of gold, 211 tonnes is believed to be held abroad.
“At the time of these disturbances, it’s preferable to recover our assets, in this case the gold, and have it here in the vaults,” Venezuelan Central Bank president Nelson Merentes said, adding that it would be re-invested in more stable economies like China, Russia and Brazil.
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro said the move was part of a plan to create a “new international monetary system” as an alternative to the crisis-hit dollar reserve structure that currently governs the financial world.Last edited by AlfredJPruffock; 24 August 2011, 06:50.Comment

You buy gold for fiat dollars, then Chavez will have to pay top dollar for transporation - problem solved.Originally posted by AlfredJPruffock View PostYou dont seem to grasp that he (Chavez) wants the Gold itself - not Fiat Dollars
It's not USA who have the problem anyway, it's England:
Chavez Emptying Bank of England Vault as Venezuela Brings Back Gold Hoard - Bloomberg
You really are hitting new unseen before levels of idiocy Alf. The only problem with so much gold is logistical task of moving it.Comment

So first of all - I am a conspiracy theorist - realising that what I mentioned was very real - you now resort to calling me an Idiot - which is fine - sticks and stones may break my bones ...Originally posted by AtW View PostYou buy gold for fiat dollars, then Chavez will have to pay top dollar for transporation - problem solved.

Many times I have been proven perfectly correct despite your predictable tactics - for another one of my mottos is :
The DarkNess Cannot Obscure The Light
So you dont think the Libyan Gold will come in handy for the US or the UK for that matter - I put it to you - think again !
But too bad - the Libyan Gold was shipped to Chavez some time ago (Aprill)
Kind of Ironic - isnt it ?Comment

I've given you very simple calculations that show only complete cretin can believe in US trying to storm Tripoli to get gold because otherwise they can't get it to Chavez.Originally posted by AlfredJPruffock View PostSo first of all - I am a conspiracy theorist - realising that what I mentioned was very real - you now resort to calling me an Idiot - which is fine - sticks and stones may break my bones ...
There is a very thin line between conspiracy theorist and an idiot and you've crossed it.Comment

Sociopaths Alfred have problems in three areas: ability to love, impulse control and moral reasoning.
There are genetic links between these disorders and sociopathy, thereby reasoning is effectively a redundant activity.Last edited by scooterscot; 24 August 2011, 10:01."Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience". Mark TwainComment

Merkel Rejects Seeking Collateral in European Bailouts as Splits Emerge - Bloomberg
Some countries have the temerity to request that bailout 'loans' be backed with gold as collateral, just in case it can't be paid back.
