Yeah, I'm getting that impression. Surely they are a necessary evil though? So long as clients refuse to go direct we have little choice - it can't hurt can it?

There's nothing wrong with schmoozing with agents, it can be a fun & rewarding experience but make sure you wash your hands afterwards.

I think he is trying to say it is impossible to get on an agents black list. Steal his wife away or take his 16 year old daughters virginity. If the agent has a gig that you fit and he can make money out of you then he will put you forward. No need to cultivate a relationship with them.
