Old worn out stereotype; says more about where you go on holiday than Germans in general.

I lost many relatives in concentration camps, I can forgive Germany but I find any attempt at airbrushing what happened extremely distasteful.

I have sympathy for your loss, but how exactly has it been "airbrushed"?? if anything it is continually highlighted lest something like that happen again - and glad of it I am too.

It's easy to harbor a grudge against Germany, but put in a room with your average German it's crazy to "hate" him for something some loonies in his country did before he was born.

I meant by some of the people in this thread.

          Totally agree.

          Hope that clears things up.

I guess it was my comment that inspired you to this.

I have been here in Germany for 4 years come the summer.
I am not British but Danish.

I think my comment was based on Germans telling me that the only people that still talk to them about WW2 are the British. And of course that is only some of the British.

Personally I have no beef with the Germans but many Danes , and probably including me, have a complex with them since they are an anourmous country compared to Denmark and Denmark were not very heroic during WW2. And since it is a mainly UK forum I made that remark as a bad taste joke that I expected people would find amusing.

I have had a very nice time here and met many nice people. I have not interacted with too many germans, but my German neighbours are very nice and not weider than other people.

I would not be surprised if I stay here for a looooong time.

              Mikhail,

              nice quote.

Where he said about 'those' Christmas markets which pop up, I think he was referring to the 'German Christmas Markets' which they put on in the UK.

I saw one a couple of years ago in Bristol down by the Hippodrome, and jeeeeeeez, did they not get it !!! It was an ensemble of the cheapest wooden garden sheds from B&Q and with some fairy lights

              it was awful

they'd tried to 'make' a German Christmas Market in Bristol, but obviously none of them had actually seen what a German Weinachtmarkt is like.

              It was embarressing.

To me the xmas market here in Frankfurt was just like that too. a bunch of weirdos selling tat out of a garden shed.

I like the FaM Christmas Market,

was there at the end of November

if you think FaM Christmas Market is bad taste then you'd think the English interpretation of a 'German Christmas Market' is a refugee camp from Sudan !

Went out with a German girl for about six months from Diepholz up near Bremen.

Had a great time visting her and her friends. Very friendly and well mannered.

Highlights were the municipal sauna visits. Being sat in the Sauna naked with 12 naked ladies was just ........ . And yes there were some mingers (including me) but some were 8s and 9s.
