But what has this to do with any German under the age of 85?

Do Stalin’s purges, the Japanese occupation of big chunks of Asia, the death camps in former Yugoslavia, the Khmer Rouge’s genocide in Cambodia, the Rwandan genocide, Idi Amin’s mass slaughter sessions and Darfur all pale into insignificance too?
And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014

They do if you've been brainwashed. And why leave out the Spanish Civil War, which was also quite recent.

I thought we were talking about Germany.

How about ‘extraordinary rendition’, ‘enhanced interrogation techniques’ and ‘collateral damage’?

Yes; why do they get the flak when it's not as if the rest of the world's been governed by angels, and in fact, Germany's probably caused a lot less suffering than most other countries in the last 66 years.

                See above.

You asked a question about peoples attitudes towards the Germans, I offered a possibility.

Because they do. Peoples perceptions of facts and true facts seldom converge.

Anyway, I'm off to read my collection of "Warlord", "Battle", and "Commando" comics.

I think it's time to forget the wartime Nazi stereotype and move on.

This is my idea of your modern German.

They DO nick all the sunbeds and they don't queue properly.

Don't start me on thos awful markets that seem to pop up everywhere in December either.

Given the country was split into two, forbidden from participating in military activity or even having an offensive force and being very closely watched by the rest of the world, it was hardly surprising.

Using that defence is like saying prisoners on parole are better than people who have never been inside.
