I can see the idea of implementing it. But surely it's going to turn into a who likes who type scenario as opposed to quality posts. Plus, the repping is being done in the General Forum.

If as Mr Fitz says is true, the vast majority of visitors are going to the Pro board. Therefore if you are a new user and you post a question and get some really good replies, then because you are new and below a certain postcount giving a reputation rating to an existing poster will result in Nil Points! So really if the desire is to present a more professional board and increase the quality of posts and get users to help more, I'm not sure it will work.

All I can see is cliques forming and the over use of sockies.

If it gives the inadequates a reason to feel better about themselves, then why not? There are plenty of other crutches around these days for the socially inept, and if THEY all fail, there is always the Masons!!

I think we are just playing with it at the moment to see how it works. I'm sure it will sort itself out soon.
Your point about newbies reps carrying little weight is a good one, but it also prevents the disposable sockies from ganging up on other posters. You cant have it both ways.
If I get thanked for contributing something useful the warm glow is enough. Now where is that Pinocchio smiley?
