I find that reading 3-4 minutes of the CUK forum last thing at night soon gets the zeds bubbling out the top of my head.

There's an app for that. Seriously. It's free as well. Think it's called 'brainhack'.

If they are allowed to, since a woman's natural instinct then is to talk about the entire future.

What, 45 seconds to reach the orgasm or to fall sleep?

The net result is that I drive to work the next day in an unfit state feeling like absolute sh*t and I spend the whole day feeling nauseous with cold sweats and a vile taste in my mouth. I've tried all kinds of things like cutting out coffee, not boozing on work nights etc but I lie there and while I feel tired it also feels like there is a gram of whizz coursing through my system. I'd go and see a doctor but I get the impression that they'd put me on pills which would create a whole new load of problems. As you'll notice from the time of this post, I'm suffering again - that God it's friday is all I can say right now.
I suffered the same for a few years, I used “Zopyclone” which worked well and knocked me out for seven hours. I woke up refreshed. I came off the pills gradually and at the same time of cutting out caffeine, (bar a cup of coffee in the morning), cutting out alcohol, (bar the occasional drink) and drinking hot milk before sleeping. (milk has a natural calming effect). However, these days generally I just fall asleep without any bother. Before falling asleep I try thinking about something relaxing I have done in the past. If I don’t fall asleep straight away I either listen to a story on iPlayer Radio or I try an recall a long car journey such as driving to Italy. Normally I fall asleep half way through the story or just after “driving” near Paris.

I find the key cause of sleeplessness is stress, unsolved problems that bug you, don't work late. I find whether I drink 20 cups of coffee or none makes no difference at all, coffee or tea only works for a couple of hours. My advice would be just keep drinking the coffee, but stop in the afternoon. Coffee's much better than alcohol. Ear plugs help tremendously to give a sense of being detached, in another world...zzzzzzzzzzz I find alcohol doesn't give you a feeling of having rested. What about having a bit of a snooze at the desk, I mean just a couple of seconds stuff, where you nod off, find that helps. You might need a hobby....could be anything riding a bike, something that isn't work or your private life. I play in a band so I might spend an hour or 4 simply playing scales on the guitar, I can tell you if you're playing scales all evening your mind will be completely "void" a bit like those brain washing machines from 1960's movies.
