Ah well, I have taken some of my retirement in advance. Backpacking around Africa was probably a lot easier when I did it than it will be when I'm 65.

Im 38, been contracting for 15 years. when younger I had the belief I would of made my money by late 40's and moved into a new field, something anti-IT.

However, despite paying off my mortgage 2 years ago, Ive since had a child and what another one, so am back on the contract bus :-)

If I was single, with no wife or child, boy I would be a wealthy dude, but hey ho :-)

No matter what you earn to spend accordingly, bigger houses, better holidays.

Only recently Ive noticed that Im now in the higher age range of people within the IT department. ANd like others Im not interested in ipods or the latest piece of techology, Im more interested in understanding my particular field and getting by.

Yes, been there, interesting. But I travel for stimulation, not relaxation. So there is no perfect place to head for, it's the travel that is interesting.

I'm not knocking unwinding, it's just not for me.
