If I am actually honest it is not the small bonuses which are paid to the lower paid average staff.

It is the stupidly large bonuses paid to the fu<wits who caused the problem in the first place that I take exception to.

It’s all very well to get hung up on bankers’ bonuses, and I agree that nurses could be better paid than they are now, but I actually think it’s a side issue. The real issue with the banks is that small and medium sized businesses are still being refused basic, sensible credit to finance the work they supply and bridge the increasingly long payment terms that large customers demand. The banks all over Europe are producing figures that make it look like they’re lending as much as normal, but many businesspeople are still experiencing difficulties, so what’s going on?

why on earth would we pay more for nurses? most of them are thick and lazy and carry no responsibility for what they do.

You need the flexibility in pay to pay the good ones more and weed out the tulip ones, of which there are more than it is PC to admit.

I wonder what it is like to be so pointlessly money orientated that you simply have not got the moral references to see why it could be construed as slightly wrong when looked at from a certain point of view.

The tax we pay bailed out the banks

The banks should therefore not pay out bonuses until they have paid the tax back

If the government is to weak to do force this through then lets all not pay out taxes until such time as the banks pay back their debts

Oh and if the bankers start whinging they can always fu< off and get another job

No they'll just fu< off and get the same job, in another country, and we'll be left with the dregs and losers and civil servants to run the banks into into the ground.

So many people in this country, including you it seems, would rather have £1 if everyone else could have no more, rather than £5 if someone else might have £10. Envy is our national disease! ( <-- green-eyed monster )

There's very little point having bailed out the banks if every talented banker is hounded out and the bailed out banks decline and collapse. Can't you see that? I guess not.

I try to look at things logically so dont shift the argument. If you think bankers bonuses should be stopped then explain why in the context of where it leaves the banks. If you are simply driven by envy then say so, dont try and fool me into thinking that your view has some sort of moral integrity.

What I am trying to say is that the same people who will be getting bonuses this year are the very same people whose lax ethics and stakeholder butt kissing polices have plunged the country into a recession which - whether you like it or not - has put a lot of people out of work and onto or below the poverty line.

Where I come from you do not reward incompetence and you most certainly do not reward incompetent liars.

Also you talk about talented bankers and how our banks need them -- can I ask why if they that fu<ing clever they have managed to get themselves into this mongolian cluster fu< of a mess.

If they were that good and worth that much money then we would not be having this conversation because there would not have been a recession.

It was their greed pursuing bonus targets and achieving them by giving loans to people who could not afford to pay them back and gambling on sub prime markets (what ever they may be) which has caused the issue.

Its like borrowing loads of money to bet on long odds horses and then wondering why you are suddenly in debt.

Has it not occured to you that these bankers happen to be very good at what they do but that the system is wrong. after all these bankers like you and I do not work with one eye on a bigger picture that is of no concern to us within the context of what we do.

According to your argument anyone working for these banks prior to the financial collapse should be punished (and in order that we are consistent here-according to your -what there is of it- logic we should include the IT contractors who developed and implemented the IT systems that enabled the collapse). This seems to be the way your mind seems to work.

I tend to think that the buck stops with directors of the banks and the governement for developing and sustaining a flawed banking system. Once the systemn is fixed then get the bankers back (and the IT contractors) to operate it, pay market rates and move on.

Guess what if we dont move on in this country and instead choose to pander to the petty envies of you, Billy Bragg and his vast army of psychophants then another country will happily accomodate the financial markets.
