Bulbs? Head Lamp Bulbs? HID is for conractors.

Indeed HID front and LED rear on mine (although it does have some remaining filament bulbs). HID units do still have replaceable bulbs, they just last a lot longer.

I bought a brand new BMW and asked them to give me a set of spare bulbs as I was going round Europe in it.

The box of spare bulbs: not a single one fitted anywhere on that model.

Yeah, Halfords is probably a better place to ask for spare bulbs than a main BMW dealers.

Oh, and the little switch that made the lights change for LHS and RHS driving didn't actually connect to anything. They'd forgotten to fit the assembly at manufacture.

BMW: never buy new. Let the first owner sort the problems out.

They are rumoured to refuse on some vehicles because it's too hard for them.

Some are too hard for anybody. Ford especially are suspected of deliberately designing it as a garage job. It's common to have to take out the headlamp unit (likewise to reach the little switch for left/right dip, great if you're driving through the tunnel at night), and in some cases you can't do that without disconnecting the battery and removing it; in the worst cases body panels have to be removed.

Ever changed the inboard rear disc pads on an E type?

It looked ever so much fun when I watched someone doing it.

I've changed them on a Camaro. Fortunately I was within walking distance of a hardware store where I could buy tools as needed.

Especially when they discover the reason for the lousy breaking is an oil leak from shaft seals.

Yep, they did that with my Vectra.

Apparently removing the filler neck for the washer fluid bottle to get to the bulb was beyond their capabilities

They fitted the headlight bulb on my Vectra no problems - I think it was £5.99 for the fitting
