We have 1 cat. Hamster died(suspected heart attack after unfortunate incidents) as did the other cat(run over).

Planning on getting a 2 chickens soon : probably battery rescue. Kitten in Autumn (dont like keeping doors locked over summer). Hamster next year when daughter can clean it out.....

Did these unfortunate incidents involve the cat?

I left door open to hamster room on night!

Cats opened cage : could not get hamster and left. Hamster wandered off. Trail of devastation round house where cats chased it. But we did capture the hamster cowering under sofa next morning.

Dont ask about the time I dropped hamster into chocolate cake/ice cream

In my defence I am better at treating hamsters than RH!

We've got two cats and I can't think of a less suitable third pet to have than a hamster / other small rodent!

Its a good point. The cats are not particularly socialable and we wanted something the children could interact with. If I had not left the door open one night all would have been fine....

They might have eaten the children if they couldn't find the hamster. Your hamster deserves a Victoria Cross.

                  3 dogs
1/2 cats (Old woman at the back of us has nicked one of them - we hardly ever see him)
Fish (in pond, 24 at last count 5 years ago)

Woke up one morning and wandered out of bedroom - toe made contact with just the front half of a Koi carp
