Sky+ HD doesn't just output in HD, it's capable of SD output too (pretty sure) so could be hooked up to your non HD telly. If you get an HD telly at a later date then you would have the capability to exploit the HD capabilities too.

I'd get back on the blower with them if I was you.

To get an HD box you have to take out an HD subscription (which IIRC is an extra tenner a month). Not really worth it if you're not going to be watching in HD

HD channels are gradually taking over the Sky schedules though. Who knows, perhaps all their channels will be HD in a year or two.

BTW, I found my Sky programmes were freezing, on and off, and guessing the cause was fragmentation on the disk and not wanting to delete all the recorded programmes from there, I found there's a "secret" service menu option to defragment the disk. See note here , at the bottom of the page.

If you turn up at the drinkies on Friday 29th you'll find out, in the 5 seconds it will take me to punch your f**king lights out.

I thought they were doing away with that charge, I'm probably wrong though.

Incidentally I use my Sky+ a load it's damn handy, the only drawbacks are:-
                      1. The boxes do tend to drop dead every now and then, but that's typically hard drive related and there are a few simple fixes. If the drive actually kicks the bucket it's a trivial task to replace with a larger one (did mine 2 weeks ago), that or yell at Sky to get them to come and replace the box (I would have, but I had stuff on the old drive I really wanted to keep).
                      2. The milisecond the box is 12 months old they will sell your info to a bunch of aggrovating tossers who will try to pimp their warranty services to you incessantly. Getting them to bugger off is quite an experience. Plus Sky will come and replace it anyway if it packs in if you threaten to cancel so 3rd party warranty is a waste of cash.
