        I was adversely affected by Thatcherite policies (redundancy and a long time out of work in the mid-eighties) but I don't hate them.

        I looked further than "me", understood why those policies had to happen, and got on with it. Nobody owed me a living.

        As a former Young Socialist, the mid-eighties was when I grew up, and realised what a lot of bollocks and hot air much of socialism is.
