Seriously, anything that would get them off their fat arses e.g. litter picking or gardening for old people. When they've lost the weight they won't have an excuse.

Indeed. Then add immigrants that have been given British citizenship, public sector employees trying to protect their pensions, Northerners that always vote Labour because their fathers etc did, and most union members, and their is you majority for Labour. Still, Labour should sort out this mess of their own making, so good luck to them !!

Oi. I am a northerner. My parents are northerners and my grandparents too. None have ever voted labour. I am also a member of a union; the Dutch FNV Freelancers union; it gives me discounts on insurance and accountacy and legal fees which more than make up for the membership fee. I am also an immigrant. I would never vote Labour because I believe people should, and given a chance most will pull themselves up by their own bootstraps. Having a go at immigrants is cheap and has nothing to do with liberty or even conservatism; in my books anyone who earns an honest living is my equal, wherever he comes from.

You are one of the few exceptions, which there will thankfully always be, but in general my points are valid. Northerners have been indoctrinated against Thatcher and the Tories not least because of the miners' strike, and believe that she ruined the UK when all evidence shows that we had one of our most prosperous periods. Hence, when you look at any election results there is always a sea of red in the North and always will be.

Look at Crewe and Nantwich, they voted Conservative, so are less red than where you live.

Fylde, Ribble Valley and Lancaster are conservative strongholds in Lancashire. Probably because they're richer than all those dole scroungers down south.

There are pockets of public sector employees, union members and benefit grabbers also in the South, so your point is meaningless. Reading has always been a deprived area in relation to the area where I live, and is now inundated with immigrants, just as Slough is. Thus they are and always will be Labour voting areas.
