    'lencten', Old Germanic, is nearer in meaning to "lengthen", in reference to the days getting longer.

    The 40 days of fasting represent Jesus' time in the desert.

    It is a moveable feast because it is attached to Easter which is a moveable feast courtesy of it being determined by lunar movements courtesy of being linked to the Jewish Passover.

    Lent does not follow Mardi Gras. It is the other way round.

    That article is littered with revisionary falsity.

        i'm giving up involuntary celibacy by taking Thursday afternoon and Friday off and going away for dirty weekend with possible gf chef..

        not quite 40 days and 40 nights but it's an admirable start
