I am giving up cakes and chocolate.

Maybe I should give up alcohol instead (I am almost teetotal).

Anyone giving anything up for Lent or doing something extra?
I'll be doing something extra on Plane Thursday, sticking a small notice on the plane tree outside my building saying "lost cat, answers to the name of tiddles" and using several 10" copper nails (thanks for the tip MM) to make doubly sure it stays up, the notice that is not the tree ..

          Good luck with that.

But you have to balance that with the old Healing Peter's Mother-in-law trick. Now that could really ruin your xmas.

I'm not Xian, so I am not partaking of worship of the imaginary sky wizard, as usual.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Hang on...I just read that Lent is not a Xian ceremony.

The irony being that all the Xians are actutally following a pagan festival that has no basis at all in their scripture.

                      Brilliant !
