Ian Smith, on white Rhodesia, 1965. Gone in 15 years.

So if anyone wants to proclaim 1000 years of power, I won't lose any sleep over it. Their fate is sealed.

Rome to Julius Caesar, 55BC. Split in two in 440 years. Western half gone in 531 years. Eastern half gone in 1,508 years.

China to Liu Bang, 202 BC. Gone in 2,113 years.

Egypt to Menes, 3150 BC. Gone in 2,818 years.

Fair point, but the government is now implementing so much that I am fundamentally ideologically opposed to (ID cards, detention without trial, national databases etc) I just want them out before the damage is irreversible.

They object in opposition but often take on the policy when in power

e.g. Labour carried on with the Dome
Fuel price escalator etc.

Indeed as Baggy said many things opposed when out of power are quietly continued when in power.
In my opinion it's wishful thinking expecting these things to be scrapped:

• ID Cards
• Detention without trial
• National Databases
• IR35
• Retrospective taxation (unless the ECHR shoots it down very firmly)
• Excessive "green" taxes
• Oppresive "anti terrorism" measures
• Corrupt MP's expenses policies
• Inept management of the economy
• Corrupt electoral system
• Cronyism
• Quangos which serve absolutely no useful purpose
• Dogmatic and idiotic projects that utterly fail to deliver

Unfortunately it makes very little difference what colour rosette the people in power wear at election time, they're all as inept and bog useless as each other.
