We went to an RSPB event recently and they had a few tiny little tortoises in a box that had been seized - beautiful little things about the size of a matchbox. Tried offering the guy cash and then upping my offer for one, but no joy.Comment

If you get a screwdriver and prise the shell off, there is an identical, smaller one inside. Keep doing this till you get to a tiny little one in the middle. It's great fun.
Dont forget to leave plenty of food if you are going on a long journey, like a four week drive to Palestine for example

Why don't you do the tortoise a favour and NOT get one as a pet ?
It's only humans who have this idiotic idea of incarcerating animals for our own sadistic pleasure.Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
