Far be it from me to be contrary, but I've just glanced out of the window in Darmstadt, and I see only a couple of inches. Sorry to hear about the poss -20 though.

Whoops, I mean 6cm. Stopped now though and is only -1. Forecast has now changed to -6

You know you've been out of the country for a while when....

you think in cm
24 degrees seems pretty warm
even when walking, you veer to the right to pass other pedestrians
you haven't the foggiest idea how many stones you might weigh.

About 2inches for me in North Derbyshire

Like most places, getting of the estate was fun, then once on to the main road it was a boring usual drive to clientco

The Friesland 11 cities tour. Maybe. We need a few more nights frost though, and there was a thaw yesterday. I hope it goes ahead; brilliant event.

Linky

I remember the last time it took place in 1997 well - I lived there from Nov 1996 to 1999 and the 96/97 winter was the coldest they had had for years (I remember it being -17 in Amsterdam over Xmas, although I think it warmed up a bit by January).

I was amazed at the amount of excitement the event generated - the Dutch people I worked with couldn't stop talking about it! Hope it takes place this year!

A Dutch colleague here reckons it may be on: ice needs to be 15cm, it's already 12cm.

He also remembers 1963: the whole Ijsselmeer froze over, and he skated all the way across it......

Took the train through NL on the 1st and there where a lot of people skating around on irrigation channels and some (deliberately) flooded fields. Looked like excellent fun.
