    Question for Musicians

I'm looking for tips on Guitars. Ideal would be a Gibson semi-acoustic, a thin one (not Jazz), but any other makes which come close. What I don't want is heavy metal fuzz, punk guitar sound.

I'm a Gibson fan and own a couple of Les Paul customs. If I had to go for a semi my first choice would be an E335S, great blues sound although the sound really depends on how you play / set up the guitar / amplification.

If you're going to get a Fender, make sure it's a Japanese one or a Squire - they stay in tune better.

My axe is a Squire Stratocaster and it's served me well. It has 3 pick-ups and a 5-way selector so you can get a decent range of sound. If you're looking to avoid the punk/fuzz sound then the only one you should really avoid is the Fender Telecaster.

For a decent blues amp, try and find a Vox or a Selmer - long since out of production but you can pick them up on eBay:-

Great tips, keep them coming ?

By the way does anyone here play a double Bass (I mean a real one) ?

Just trying to get a view of availability of Double Bass players. Must be bloody difficult hunking one of those things around.

I gigged a few times with a double bass player who used to squeeze it into his tiny hatchback car. He also had an electric double base which was a standard neck bolted onto a lightweight frame and amplified, easier to transport although not quite the same sound.

Bass players drink too much anyway, use a sampler

Good, so Double Bass players are available. Is there a sort of musicians "yellow pages" where you could pick one up for the evening ?

Depends on your location. You could try here:

                    http://www.entsweb.co.uk/musicians/

                    Here might be better:

Local directories exist of course and I use these in Scotland from time to time.
