That's not really what I said. My comment was that this is not my area but I would have expected the rates to be closer to the figures quoted by max that those by Dow Jones.Originally posted by Xil3 View PostSo you guys would say that it's worthwhile to slowly move my career path from php to java?Comment

It was more of a general question and not really related to your response... didn't mean to quote you.Originally posted by oracleslave View PostThat's not really what I said. It will be a lot of work moving from PHP to Java, just getting your head arounf real OOP will take a while.Originally posted by Xil3 View PostSo you guys would say that it's worthwhile to slowly move my career path from php to java?Comment

I would get out of php asap if I was you
The rates are a joke because it is to easy to outsource to India and eastern Europe at a faction of the cost of a contractor in the UK
As to what to move into...whole different and complicated debate. Something I recommend you research yourself as it not only depends on what you can potentially earn but your actual migration path to it (aka where are you coming from and with what relevant experience)Comment

That won't be the major problem for me. I already have a good understanding of real OOP. I just have to get used to the syntax and environments.Originally posted by Ardesco View PostIt will be a lot of work moving from PHP to Java, just getting your head arounf real OOP will take a while.Comment

I've had various levels of exposure to Java at a commercial level and personal, so I feel comfortable with the switchover. I just need to start doing some more personal projects to refamiliarize myself with it and maybe try jumping into a junior position first and then go from there...Comment
