german friends have spoken about those, for people who do not want to be chopping and carrying woord everyday, yet paradoxically have access to a cheap wood source and hence having a wood boiler and not gas or electric

one of my dreams, to one day buy some property that has a lot of trees

You don't have to do that. A former boss bought himself a small wood. He got a couple of years worth of logs out of his initial tidying up. Fuel for life sorted.

I actually missed having to chop wood and light a fire every night once I put gas central heating in. I think it must have satisfied some kind of primeval urge, a bit like putting food you've grown/hunted/fished yourself on the table

Yes, I do that. Cut down a tree or two in spring, good wood goes to a wood yard, and spend the rest of the year chopping the rest of it up, even little twigs go into a machine to make wood bricks, make nice piles, burn that through the winter.

sas,

no, we bought it while the house was being built and it didn't get formally installed until 12 months after purchase

I don't know what you have against potatoes, you cannot beat potatoes that
have some taste and flavour, you must have had the pleasure of experiencing new potatoes straight out of the garden, or perhaps not living in the smoke with a portacabin office instead of a greenhouse, summed up as a question of priorities I suppose

toodle pip

Milan.

Milan my garden has apple trees and a vegetable plot as well as the lovely garden office that you and Dim covet so much, but can't afford.

cost £50 quid to get the boiler repaired, turned out the condenser whatever that is was full of water and some other part was full of birds feathers and crap

so the bloke serviced the boiler which is just over two years old and now it works again

turns out, we have to get it serviced once a year anyway otherwise if we have a house insurance claim as a result of a boiler problem we will not be insured

you live and learn eh

burn't a fair bit of wood in the last two days in the absence of the boiler, good job I bought 12 tons last year

I agree with Sysman, it is nice having a real fire
