          IME, the Linux geeks get all stroppy and tell newby types to RTFM when you're really stuck and have already RTFM a million times and are still stuck.

            I always find it the other way round Windows never tells you enough about why something doesn't work

            Have a look at the files in /var/log, for a start /var/log/messages would probably be usefull. They are all text files, so just fire up your favorite text editor and open them.
            Politicians are wonderfull people, as long as they stay away from things they don't understand, like working for a living!

                  Just getting my bearings, the surroundings look familiar but everything is in a different place from what I'm used to... which is to be expected to be fair.

                  Took it off and repartitioned drive back to how it was, now I'm running it straight off the CD it's playing ball, yesterday Firefox was playing up.
