VS 2005 debug problem.

Installed Visual Studio 2005 on new Win 7 PC complete with all updates and it works fine apart from the fact that the values of global variables are not available to debug.

I get nothing shown on hovering mouse over the variable name and quickwatch tells me the variable is undefined, I have to copy it to a local variable to check value.

Anyone had this and know of any solution? Cheers.

Show relevant piece of code, with changed names etc.

VB.net. I mean anything defined as Public is not visible to the debugger in any part of code unless declared in the same document.

In "modules" as well as "classes"?
(gosh this VB.NET terminology is neither one thing nor t'other).

Yes. I have a small number of public vars like file paths and screen scaling factors in module mGlobals.vb and debug can't see them in either classes or other modules. Quickwatch says name xxx not defined.

Another 64 bit problem I suspect. I see "Microsoft Visual Studio 8" is in both program files and program files (x86).

This can happen if a "debug" build is done with Optimise option in C# - basically compiler's optimizer eliminates dead code, so they ain't there in that mode.

Had to use VB.NET once, never again!

By usual process of trial and error I sorted it. Unticked "Enable the Visual Studio hosting process" whatever that is.
