Trying to connect to the free wi-fi in the hotel. Keep being told that I am connected to the free public network and yet again there is no connection!!
I have found in hotels that sometimes you get a WiFi connection but when you launch a browser it defaults to the hotel's homepage where you have to put in a code given to you by the reception in order to browse away from the homepage. Maybe that bit is broken?

WHS. I have had trouble with the browser not popping up where you are then supposed to register.
I have also had problems with remote connectivity software which picks up the connection for you (not your normal networking connection) and tries to connect, authenticate and then kick off vpn in one. This does not allow the brower pop up and so thefefore cannot authicticate the connection. Never got around this so don't know what the answer is.

What an earth is going on ???
Check you IP, (fixed or DHCP?)
You will need DHCP...
Run cmd, and ipconfig, make sure it is picking up a correct IP address, subnet mask and default gatway.
