    Slingbox

I took the plunge and bought one this weekend and I must admit I'm impressed. Worked pretty much out of the box. Sod this iplayer malarky - even if you drop the bitrate down to like 300k a sec it's still watchable. I was quite suprised that in the cr@ppy hotel I'm staying in, my slingbox worked fine but Skype struggled (tried to use skype before I connected to my slingbox)

Is that one of those "net bombs" that a Times article was on about?

        wiring

Been considering a slingbox but need to know how it is wired:

Does it hard wire to sky and the broadband router, or is it wireless?

If it needs to hardwire to both it may not work for me - sky is downstairs and router is upstairs.

An explanation would be gratefully received.

it hardwires to your video inputs i.e sky, dvd, HTPC, bluray etc. then connect it either wired or wirelessly to the router, i have mine wired but it works wirelessly aswell..

Dongle on UK account or German account?

If former, how much does it cost for usage in Germany? If latter, I suppose one needs German address and bank account?

I thought the data throughput limits on those things were really low. How much data does it use? I'd imagine lots

dongle on german account as my uk dongle costs £1.50 per Mb when used outside of the uk. Address is required (but no proof needed), no german bank account as it's pay as you go 4.95€ per 24 hrs usage.

My router in the uk has a 2Mb upload speed, I'm averaging around 500-750 kb/s download on the voafone usb dongle, picture quality is perfectly acceptable.

I also get a perfectly reasonable picture on my Sony Ericsson Xperia phone with just a 3G signal.
