I have always used AceFTP but after these comments I might have to investigate FileZilla.

I bought (yes bought !) a CuteFTP licence about 10 years ago
- and thats what I still use today

For a command line utility (useful for scripting), try NcFTP. Available for Windows and the usual *nix varieties.
