    beBox replacement

I'm having a few problems with my beBox now...crashes almost daily now.

Anyone on here tried one of the alternate modems. I was thinking about
trying my SOLWISE 600 or buying a netgear. The netgear I'm sure will work, the solwise I've heard won't/

I had the same issue with mine - eventually convinced Be to send me a replacement and it's been a lot better since.

Had a look on their forums at all? The NetGear seems popular, but if money is no object then it might be worth looking at a Draytek.
Where are we going? And what’s with this hand basket?

I've looked all around the forums and wiki. I am thinking about the Draytek as I'd like a couple of people to VPN in to my Sharepoint server to start some development work..and I'm sure the BeBox only allows one in at a time.

Would also be useful for the wife to get at her files from home.

The Draytek 2820N is perfectly compatible with Be so it seems. around £170 or so..not bad for something that's rock solid.

Aye, I'm a big fan of Draytek kit - very good for VPN connectivity as you say. Never had any issues with my old Vigor2600 - can't recall ever having to reset it either. Be interested to know how you get on as I might be tempted to pick up a new Draytek myself.

Are you sure that there is an actual fault? I had a period of my BeBox rebooting on a daily basis. I had a word with tech support and it wasn’t a fault on the box but some of their parameters. Now sorted and only rarely have any problems now.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

When it goes down..I can't get into the router web page nor can I telnet into it. But all the lights are on the modem. Pings etc..don't work. My internal network is okay..and I think the wireless still works. Just no internet. Only solution is to power cycle...and its pretty regular as it crashes at about the same time everyday.

This modem takes forever to resyncronize as well.

I suppose I could set a more stable profile and see how that goes. So far Be* have suggested to re-flash the bios...I'm in the middle of a critical project using a VPN connection to my client..so I'll hold off on that for now.

Many people have gone with Netgear or Draytek and have had good success. Given how bad this router is..probably the worst I've ever seen....I may just go that way anyway.

Pretty much the same issue I was seeing with mine, and widely reported on their forums. I went through every conceivable solution with their support staff without any success. The replacement box is much, much better, but there are some still occasional issues (I suspect with the NAT implementation) where it requires a reset.

My Vigor 2820n arrived today - so over the next couple of days I'll set it up and see how it goes.

From what I can tell the wireless interface is what's causing the problem on the BeBox. When my wife uses her PC the BeBox goes down. The firmware refresh did nothing - as expected. Prior to setting up the wife on wireless everything was on cables...and it worked fine for those two months.

The Vigor should also (hopefully) sort out my VPN problems with my incoming users.

That wireless issue sounds very familiar, although I've also encountered similar on the wired interface. Be interested to know how you get on with the Vigor.

I have had issues with WiFi cards in Acer laptops knocking out the whole office.

An office I worked in had 2 identical Acer laptops, both bought at the same time from the same supplier.
When the wifi card on one of them was turned on, the entire office wifi network went down, but the other was fine.
The wifi manufacturer had provided a driver update, installing this cured the problem. May be worth a look if you still have problems....
