Easily offer virtual Windows Server 2003 hosting.

FWIW, I've been using them for several years and found them very reliable, but I've only ever used their Linux hosting. Their Windows hosting seems to be three or four times as expensive as the Linux hosting, but that's Microsoft licence fees for you

AFAIK, leaving aside the more expensive server costs for Windows, they charge the same for data transfer (often erroneously called "bandwidth") on either platform, and I've always found them very reasonable. They might not be the cheapest out there, but as I said they're reliable, and on the couple of occasions that I've had a technical query about some aspect of the service their support people have been extremely quick to respond - even on a Sunday afternoon.

Can't really recommend anyone as I have a dedicated server for such things, but would suggest that it is worth avoiding Fasthosts. Clients of mine have had issues with sites being unavailable at peak times due to load on the Fasthosts shared server platform.

I'd go for one that specialises in ASP.NET hosting, that way you know it will have all the required frameworks in place and the support should know what you are talking about re permissions and security. Avoid hosting in the USA as I've found the latency and bandwidth to be terrible and of course the server is setup for US currency, timezone and time.

PS. I wouldn't go for anything "free" as many times they disappear with no warning or delete your whole website and say "sorry, it was a free service and we've pulled it."

I have used CrystalTech (linky) for a little while now - very good, excellent support, and no issues with them being in the USA (other than it being for a reasonable price).

As a bonus they also tend to be early adopters of new MS technologies (which is how I found them, they were a beta Host for .NET 2.0) - which means you can play around with new stuff in a hosted environment early on!!

I am with VodooFlux though, avoid Fasthosts; despite their takeover by the German firm who also own 1&1 they are still slow at times.

I have been using www.streamlinenet.co.uk for over 5 years now - very reliable and offer hosting on both Windows and Linux Servers - you get all the normal stuff ASP.NET etc...
the other Hosting companies mentioned above are pretty good too - just don't go with one you havn't been recomnended as some would rip you off with crap services....

I've got a full no-licence-key-required Windows ME install disk that bears the message "Try ME... and give ME to a friend!" A mate of mine from Microsoft was handing them out to all and sundry at a party a few years ago.

I tried it, and decided I didn't hate my friends enough to give it to them
