I have a problem on my main PC. This PC boots off an IDE drive and has a couple of sata drives installed also. Sometimes when it boots it fails and displays loads of 99's over the screen. Unplugging one of the sata drives gets around this. Has anybody else had this? There are 4 sata ports on the motherboard and I've tried using different connections but it works for a while and then every so often throws a wobbler. The PC is a bog standard windows one - although I don't think things have even got as far as the OS. Not sure what the motherboard is as I have not got the details to hand. I've tried googling it but come up with a blank.

One or the other of your SATA drives is dying. Back everything up while you can and then run the box with one or the other disconnected to figure out which is the problem.

Helpful as ever...

I would find out the mobo manufacturer and check their support forums. Sounds like it could be a conflict between hard drive and mobo.

Are both the SATA hard drives the same? Does the error happen with both of them? Might help narrow the problem down.

One of the SATA drives could also be on its last legs...
