Partitions

My hard disk is currently partitioned into two - a 'C' drive for program files, and 'D' drive for data. Unfortunately 'C' is running out of space, and I would like to increase it at the expense of 'D'.

Is it possible to do this, without using any specialist software, so that I don't lose any data on 'C' when I resize the partitions? I don't mind taking a copy of the data on 'D' first, it's just that it would it be a pain if I had to replace all my program files on 'C'.

Not unless you use something like partition magic...

Wrong, any Linux live CD can resize your disc partitions.

GParted - http://gparted.sourceforge.net/liveusb.php - is a small 50Mb Linux distribution specifially designed for this task.

should have added that I'm using Windows XP.

after Angus' response and a bit of looking on the web, looks like I'll have to get a copy of Partion Manager or Acronis.

Shame, as it's a one-off job.

Did you even click the link? It resizes the following filesystems (note that fat32 and ntfs are included so will work with your XP system):-

ext2
ext3
fat16
fat32
hfs
hfs+
jfs
linux-swap
ntfs
resiserfs
reiser4
ufs
xfs

As a software developer myself, there is nothing that makes me more annoyed than people with your attitude. Someone, somewhere is trying to make a living, and that person could be one of us. If you can't afford it/won't pay for it, don't use it.

As with all partition managing software, the usual caveat still applies - make a backup first before you play.

OOOOOH! There is nothing more annoying than someone with your attitude. I am talking about companies like MS that shaft us users constantly and use us a testers and still charge us extortionate fees.
