Has anyone here got any indepth experience of SQL Server Reporting Services?

I'm trying to configure the initial start page:
http://servername/reportserver

But can't seem to find where to do it

Thats just for general administration

Its the user access page at http://servername/reportserver that I want to configure. Currently it looks worse than cack. Managed to find an example of what the page looks like at the moment:

Yes, that's what I remember it to look like. There are a few configuration files that you can play around with, but I haven;'t worked with RS in a while, so I don't remember if and how you can change that page. The files are called:

RSReportDesigner.config
RSReportServer.config
RSWebApplication.config

There may be others, but they all start with RS and have a .config file type extension

Also, have you looked in IIS to see the physical file the virtual directory is pointing to for http://server/reportserver?

You can change the role settings that all the users have access to, limiting what the user can see when they navigate to http:/severname/reports. Navigate to site settings (top right corner) and take a look at the Security section. You can then drop into all the folders and reports and specify authorisation rights at that level.

Personally, I dislike the SSRS interface so I tend to write my own using http://servername/reportserver/ReportService2005.asmx to query things like folder structure and report parameters.

I was hoping to be able to use the underlying systems for security and user access restrictions and then tailor some sort of config file to adapt the look and feel of the initial pages ie how they browse to the reports they have access to.

I'll have a look at those config files (and cross reference google)

I'll update once i start getting somewhere with it

I believe you can configure security within the virtual directory in IIS. I remember exploring that avenue. May be worth having a look at that, too

Cheers, security really isn't an issue at the moment. I know where and how to configure that from doing similar operations before on other web systems.

The only problem i've really got is making that page the users access look nice!

IMHO users shouldn't access the reportserver page. After all it's just a list of directories and files and it doesn't contain any more info than the http://servername/reports page. Have you thought about creating a custom "welcome" page that hooks into the reports page, or, even better, incorporate the RS pages into Sharepoint?
