    Racism arrest - yikes

I think , but am not certain that a caution is never ever spent . A criminal record will expire and does not have to be declared for ever . Since a caution never expires , in theory it always has to be declared i.e Application forms asking about a criminal record. Hope I am wrong , but a...

    Ealing

Tube station Hangar Line is horrible - its inside the roundabout and a slightly un-nerving walk to the industrial estate nearby . I used to come through central London ( from Islington) heading out on the A40. At 07.00 the queue on the A40 into London started at Perivale / sometimes...

Penalty Through Post For Driving In Middle Of Road

There are quite a few of these in London and yes I think they are deliberately confusing (revenue raising) . The scary bit is as you get close to the black bollard things you can see copious shades of paint on them . If you do not line up EXACTLY between the things you are very likely to scrape...

    Which Xmas market?

Copenhagen as a city is small and easily covered in 3 or 4 days. Tivoli Gardens seems to be where everyone goes , especially families ( lots of lights in shapes of things i.e. ships etc ) . The market as such is within Tivoli and not that big. Nice atmosphere in Copenhagen and usually an...

The City, London - cheap digs

Have you considered University accomodation? During summer hols ( and Easter ) many of the universities that have student accomodation rent them out . Usually they are basic but ensuite in most of the newer ones. Probably no TV but then again you did say cheap ! Here is one of them , but just...

    Will

Try , if you can, to ge a Solicitor that is STEP registered ( society of Trusts and Estate Planners) as they are even more specialised . Also look out for the wily clause that lists the Solicitors as an Executor ( they tell you this is for your benefit but of course it is for their benefit ) .

    Identity Document legal certification

Doesnt have to be only a solicitor, see link: http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/po/content1?catId=63400715&mediaId=105000818 Seems reasonable charge for anyone not in a LTD company ( who would provide a letter stating that any Employee supplied by them has been checked for right to work in...

Choice Between Contracts - Advice Needed

Do you have any kind of personal social life locally ? If you do then its going to be more than disrupted, it will pretty much disappear when you miss nights out as "the train was late "/ too darned tired from commuting to go out / staying extra nights to make up for travel disruption on...

No Business Bank Account yet BUT new contract next week. What to do?

I had similar problem earlier this year. Took about 8 weeks for VAT reg to come through so in meantime I invoiced but with a line saying "VAT number applied for and outstanding VAT will be invoiced once details received". Then when the VAT number came through raised an invoice for VAT only for...

    Agency won't change contract?

Agents always tell you that you are the first/only contractor ever to have a problem with their contract. If you are unhappy with any clauses its up to you to get them changed. Its a game of who blinks first on each clause , sometimes the Agency will agree changes other times they wont. It...

    Taking the mobile on holiday

Better to leave them to accumulate in the Inbox and have a relaxing few hours on day 1 back in office. "Sorry , gotta go through the emails.....will be a while yet " . :smokin

    Insurance

Like RC I was with Barclays and I used to check every year and they were fine with covering business eqpt ( laptop / printer etc ) up to value of 2500 pounds at home. Expressly said it was my registered office and eqpt. belonged to my Ltd Co. So long as no business visitors came to home they...

    Cash Passport and robbing banks

Its probably part of the same rip off banks do when you order foreign currency - using a debit card - to be delivered by post to home /collected at branch. You pay for the currency and any exchange rate charge BUT your own bank views it as a "Foreign Transaction" and charges you on top again...

    IBM iSeries (AS400) backup?

Like the man says , bin your operator ! Messages are usually written out to message queue QSYSOPR : DSPMSG QSYSOPR and scroll through for the offending item ( or use the "F" keys to view only unanswered messages) . The I series has its own job scheduler as part of operating system so you can...

    Double Glazing price /recommendation

Whoever you go with , make sure the guarantee is Insurance backed ( who is the underwriter ) and NOT just a guarantee provided by the selling company. 'Cos if they go ....so does the guarantee. Everyone is hung up on FENSA but when you call them it refers to the GLASS - not the frames/workmanship !

What's your weakness.. psychology behind this question..?

not that question but equally stupid ( at a Contract interview ) "What motivates you ? " I said "money " and got the gig. Struggled to not combine my reply with a withering stare though.............

    2 Year Rule ?

You need to read the 24 month rule in conjunction more than 40 % of time at same location ( everyone forgets that bit ) . The claiming mileage is - as has been pointed out - for the employee of the ltd company , not the company itself. If your geographical area is still Manchester you may find...
