    Entrepreneurs' relief

Also a hijack, but with regard to claiming ER and working in a similar trade within 2 years of ltd company liquidation, does working through an umbrella in a similar capacity fall afoul of this or not?

Official Contractor UK Budget Thread 2017

I'll make an effort to post a bit more. Just thought I'd comment on this since apparently HMT gets a good giggle out of unnerving contractors every Autumn, coincidentally just after Halloween.

Official Contractor UK Budget Thread 2017

Thanks. Just been very busy, much less time to post crap on a forum with the last few clients and the current one.

Official Contractor UK Budget Thread 2017

Amen. :D Who knows, maybe he'll form his own limited company, divert all his income into it and ***** off whilst some other monkey deals with the fallout of his and May's ineptitude.

Official Contractor UK Budget Thread 2017

Yup! I'd say 2020 at this point. The Consultation and subsequent discussion will run into the 2018 Budget in all likelihood; the private sector is substantially more complex, cost-sensitive and innovative than the public sector and they probably know the reaction to this measure could blow up in...

NUS - gay men are no longer oppressed enough

Yup, and the fact that a lot of bi/gay men don't kowtow to their ideology.

Star Wars : The Force Awakens (contains spoilers)

Well sure, it's just a plot device, but the choices the Sith make are meant to be driven by extremes of anger, hatred etc. I guess if people were expecting Emperor or Darth Vader levels of ugly they would come out disappointed, but I don't see the harm in a sexy villain. The stuff written on the...

Star Wars : The Force Awakens (contains spoilers)

Depends, he looked pretty young and still learning his way around using the force, as well as acquiring the discipline to wield it effectively, no matter how powerful he was. They could've thrown in some visible corruption over and above the deathly palour, though.

Star Wars : The Force Awakens (contains spoilers)

Yeah, he'd stick out like a sore thumb. It's a galaxy far, far away from the Hunger Games, where most of the leads were ostensibly psychologically damaged, or at least trying to conceal it, and where you had at least some on-screen references to character development. Aside from Rey and Finn...

Star Wars : The Force Awakens (contains spoilers)

The fact that the stormtrooper acted like a human being who had been raised in a functional family and undergone regular peer-peer socialisation (rather than master/slave), also stretched belief. You'd expect some serious emotional scarring and deficiencies, given what is known of them, probably...

Star Wars : The Force Awakens (contains spoilers)

Wasn't hugely impressed by the younger leads, and the renegade storm trooper felt pretty arbitrary, but I enjoyed Kylo Ren and his scenes. I guess like Anakin, he has plenty of time to become ugly.

UK economy in shock slowdown as recovery loses steam

They do the re-defining thing an awful lot, as and when it suits. Although you raise a good point, maybe just tack a nice juicy multiplier onto the anticipated effects of QE or migration, and voila, more growth! To think, it took our species some 10k or however many years to discover this...

UK economy in shock slowdown as recovery loses steam

Not to worry, they'll find new ways of re-defining the GDP, or the PCE/CPI, to put Britain back on the path of growth.

oh dear: deficit target in doubt as borrowing climbs in November

They have no need to pay savers anything. Central banks provide all the 'funds' for their lending operations. :D Point is, they're just basically taking with one hand what they give with the other, so they're not exactly making any real "progress" that they couldn't make by just printing money.
